Medical Scholarship Program

Central to the philosophy of Lee Tae Seok was to provide opportunities for education as a means to freedom and self-sufficient prosperity. As a medical doctor, he dreamt of seeing some of his students follow in his footsteps and serve their communities through healthcare. Unfortunately, Father Dr. Lee passed away of cancer before most of his students were of age to pursue higher education. But his vision and unwavering belief in his students is alive and well to this day. Ensuring that the dreams of Lee Tae Seok and his many students could become a reality has been a primary focus of the Lee Tae Seok Foundation.

Through the Medical Scholarship Program, the Lee Tae Seok Foundation funds the full tuition and living expenses of nearly 50 students, all of whom are former mentees of the late Lee Tae Seok. Two of these students are already in medical residency programs in Ethiopia, which our scholarship continues to fund.

While it is particularly touching to support those with a deep connection to Father Dr. Lee, it is the mission of the Lee Tae Seok Foundation to expand the reach and scope of the Medical Scholarship Program for years to come.

“My dream was always to provide medical care to people in abandoned villages. Thank you to the donors of the Lee Tae Seok Foundation for helping make my dreams a reality.”

Lychok Medical Assistance Program

Through the Lychok Medical Assistance Program, Medical Scholarship recipients regularly volunteer to use their training to give health checkups for patients in Lychok, and the Foundation funds the visits in addition to medical supplies and equipment. This village had a special place in Father Dr. Lee’s heart, as he frequently traveled to Lychok and treated the patients suffering from Hansen’s disease, many of whom had never received any medical attention in their lives. His compassion for these patients is what inspired many of the students in the first place.

Today, the students’ commitment to serving the people of Lychok with their training and specialized knowledge in various medical fields has been heartwarming to the villagers and inspiring to us all.
